The NBA's tryst with DUI continues. Recently, Lamar Odom became the latest NBA player to be arrested for DUI.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the player was driving erratically along a California freeway, when California Highway Patrol officers asked him to pull over. However, he kept on driving even after several efforts by the California Highway Patrol officers to make him pull over. He finally exited the freeway and stopped his car.
Highway Patrol officers found that Odom was showing signs of intoxication, and decided to administer a field sobriety test. However, he was unable to perform the field sobriety test.
He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Officers also believe that he was possibly under the influence of drugs at the time. He refused to submit a chemical test at the scene, but was arrested without putting up a resistance.
This DUI arrest happens to be the most recent in a long series of legal troubles for the player who also happens to be Khloe Kardashian’s husband. Those legal troubles include alleged drug use. His drug troubles are also being blamed for a recent report that he had gone missing for approximately 72 hours, after having a fight with his wife.
Odom is expected to plead no contest to one count of DUI, and is likely to be sentenced to probation. He is also likely to be sentenced to an alcohol education program. However, he faces more severe consequences because of his refusal to take an alcohol test at the scene of the arrest. As a result of the refusal, he is likely to lose his driver’s license for a period of 12 months. Alcohol test refusal is permitted in the State of California, but can result in serious consequences.
